LEEA Returns to Crane & Rigging Conference Canada
The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) will again deliver a presentation to delegates at the Crane & Rigging Conference (CRC) Canada, which takes place for the fourth time on Oct. 20-21 at the Marriott at River Cree Resort, Edmonton, Alberta.
Denis Hogan, UK Country Manager, Regional Manager—West at LEEA, who was well received at the same venue last year, will give a followup paper titled “ISO 9927: A New Approach to the Inspection and Maintenance of Cranes”.
ISO 9927-1, published in June 2013, specifies the general requirements for inspections to be carried out on cranes. Additional requirements for particular types of cranes are intended to be covered by the relevant specific parts of the ISO 9927 series and work has recently started on the first of these—ISO 9927 Part 5 “Overhead travelling and portal bridge cranes”.
Hogan said: “This standard will set out recommendations for the pre-use checks, in-service inspection, maintenance, thorough examination (following installation, in service and following exceptional circumstances) and supplementary testing of overhead travelling cranes, including portal and semi-portal cranes, hoists, and their supporting structures. Largely based on BS 7121 series of standards this offers a new and more rigorous approach to the inspection and maintenance of different types of cranes.”
The two-day crane conference will address crane and rigging supervisors working in a wide variety of industries, facilities managers, and safety personnel. Overhead cranes, critical lifting, rigging, standards, competency, and training will be among key topics.
The Canadian Hoisting & Rigging Safety Council will again bookend the event with a keynote presentation on the first day before the popular panel discussion closes the conference with a Q&A session.
CRC Canada 2014 will also be supported by Industrial Training International (Event Partner), Liebherr-Canada Ltd. (Associate Sponsor), and Crane & Hoist Canada (Media Partner).
