Toyota Expands Free Onsite Medical Center

Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc. (TMHU), Irvine, Calif., has announced that Toyota Industrial Equipment Mfg., Inc. (TIEM), has expanded services at its free onsite medical center to provide associates with more options and convenience. Opened in April 2008, the medical center provides no-cost personal healthcare services, prescriptions and treatment of work-related injuries to associates at the plant. The center, located in Columbus, Ind., recently added onsite therapy and expanded its pharmacy capabilities. The medical center is run by Cerner Corp., a leading global supplier of healthcare solutions and the parent company of IMC HealthCare.

The center is open during the working week and on Saturday morning, and is available at no cost to TIEM associates and their dependents, and all temporary associates working at TIEM. The free onsite medical center provides many services including physicals; treatment of colds, flu and allergies; immunizations; smoking cessation program visits; ergonomic assessments and more. It is estimated to receive more than 6,100 visits per year and has already handled 18,075 patient visits since its opening.

"We estimate our associates save up to 75 percent of the time and 100 percent of the cost typically associated with an off-site doctor’s visit," said TIEM’s manager of human resources Tim Hollkamp. "Having the convenience of an onsite medical center allows associates to save vacation time, hard-earned money and gas. It also allows TIEM to continue its normal schedule without much disruption. It’s a win-win for everyone involved."
