CIC Researches Mini-Cranes, Mechanics Trucks, and Locomotive Cranes

The practical exam committee of Crane Institute Certification (CIC), Sanford, Fla., is currently reviewing several niche crane types to determine whether separate practical tests should be developed for them. The niche crane products include mini-cranes, mechanics trucks, and locomotive cranes.

“We are conducting pilot tests with those machines in the field to determine whether we should revise existing practical exams or create new tests for these crane categories,” said Debbie Dickinson, executive director. “The goal is to validate the best and most relevant methods for testing machines used in unique work environments.”

The practical exam committee expects to make a decision about how to proceed by the end of 2011.
