Philadelphia Zoo Uses Toyota Forklift to Move Pair of Hippos

The Philadelphia Zoo recently, Philadelphia, Pa., recently used a large capacity Toyota forklift to move two 4,500-pound hippopotamuses to a new home within the zoo grounds.

The hippos, Cindy and Unna, were transported in a large crate measuring 15 feet long by 5 feet wide by 7 feet high. Zoo keepers used positive reinforcement to train the hippos to step into the crate. Once inside, the large capacity Toyota forklift transferred them to their new home, which features a large outdoor area and pool where the hippos can swim and fully submerge.

United Rentals supplied the Toyota forklift for the project.
