Water Weights Inc. Installs Load Measuring System at Lower Monumental Dam

Water Weights, Inc., Montclair, Calif., recently installed a complete load measuring system on the upstream and downstream turbine deck cranes at Lower Monumental Dam in Kahlotus, Wash., for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Water Weights performed all the calibration and testing for the project using 12- by 35-ton water bags and 6- by 12-ton bags rigged onto a lifting beam equipped with mounted concrete weights to achieve a maximum test load of 750 tons on two trolleys.

The entire calibration and testing took three days on site with an extra day for testing all auxiliary hoists on both bridge cranes.
