Canada Crane Conference to Look at Multi-Crane Lifts

Mike Parnell, president and CEO of Industrial Training International, Woodland, Wash., is the latest in a series of high-profile speakers to confirm their services to MCM Events' second Crane & Rigging Conference (CRC) Canada, which will return to Edmonton, Alberta, and it will be held at the Sutton Place Hotel on Sept. 13-14, 2012.

Parnell will be conducting an interactive workshop where participants will engage in theoretical multi-crane lifts including principles of load turning and dueling booms. Delegates will receive literature to support their learning. This presentation was voted one of the ‘Top 3 Best Sessions’ at the inaugural Maritime Lifting Solutions Workshop, which took place last December in Mobile, Ala.

Also on the agenda, Mike Gelskey Sr., president and CEO, Lift-It Manufacturing, will give delegates the benefit of his sling and rigging expertise; Judy Mellott, president and CEO, All Canadian Training Institute (ACTi), will share her wealth of experience; and much more, including crane control in hazardous locations and wire rope.

Building on last year's success

The first CRC Canada opened to a standing room-only crowd in October 2011 at the nearby Fantasyland Hotel, where professionals from all the western provinces and many from the United States attended the two-day event. Most noteworthy was a strong contingent from the oil sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

"We were very pleased with the inaugural event and positive feedback we received from a very passionate and engaged Canadian audience," said MCM president Guy Ramsey.

CRC Canada 2012 will feature a much anticipated update from last year’s panel, which discussed harmonization of regulations relevant to cranes and rigging with Alberta and the other three Western provinces—British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—and possibly beyond. The North West Territories are addressing major growth in the oil, gas and mining sectors over the next 10 years.

The event will again provide opportunities to improve the management of crane operations before, during, and after the lift. Fleet and facilities managers, safety leaders, operators and riggers, will participate in sessions to help users apply new regulations; evaluate and safely prepare the work environment; hone inspection skills; manage and maintain equipment; and learn from colleagues and competitors.

The conference will focus on construction, mobile cranes, overhead cranes, hoists and rigging. Breaks in the program will give delegates the opportunity to peruse an exhibit area featuring displays from a variety of vendors.
