Perkins Adds to 400 Series Engines

At Intermat, Perkins Engines, Mossville, Ill., added three new models in the 400D Series engines, which will meet major emissions legislative requirements up to 2013 for North American and Europe. With the introduction of these new models, including the 404D-22TA, 403D-15T, and 403D-17, the 400 Series' 10 engines now range between 10 and 65 hp.

Perkin's most powerful new engine is the 404D-22TA, a 2.2 liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit with air charge cooling that produces 66 hp at 2800 rpm. The new unit not only flexes its muscles in terms of power and torque • 208Nm at 1800 rpm • but it also offers flexibility during installation because of its side-mounted turbocharger. Engine options include high and low fan positions, a choice of cooling fans including a special low noise version and electronic-controlled governing.

Despite the more stringent requirements of the forthcoming emissions regulations, the 400D models will not differ in terms of package size to their Tier 2 predecessors and will offer the same performance and power density. However, noise has been improved by up to 3dBA with the option of lowering it by an additional 2dBA if a non-standard low noise fan is specified. Heat rejection is also improved due a reworking of the cooling flows, enabling a smaller radiator to be used.
