Capco Crane & Hoist’s record build in race to support COVID-19 victims

A US medical equipment manufacturer recently asked Capco Crane & Hoist, Inc. to produce a freestanding crane system “in record time”.

The fit took place at Nypro Medical’s Boston MetroWest location, to assist in the vital manufacture of ventilators in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Capco’s management said of their long-time customer, “They wanted to set up a room ASAP to produce ventilators for hospitals. Speed was the key. They wanted a crane system that would normally be completed in 12-14 weeks, designed, fabricated and installed in just one week.”

Given the urgency of the request, the overhead material handling systems specialist was asked to put everything on hold and worked around the clock in order to complete the fit in just seven days.

As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to grow in US (in excess of 450,000 at time of writing according to official Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures), thousands have been hospitalised and healthcare systems are experiencing a shortage of supplies to meet rapidly increased demand.

“We feel it is essential to be helping them [Nypro Medical] build the ventilators we all need. We are proud to do our part,” added Capco’s management who also acknowledged their own team’s tireless work ethic and patriotic spirit in meeting this urgent request to assist in the delivery of essential frontline equipment and aid.  Jim Couturier, is Head Engineer and project lead. Tony Caputo, President at Capco Crane & Hoist, Inc. will be vital at keeping other projects running to free up manpower.
