FLTA honours Mentor’s Richard Shore for “Services to Industry” – Industry News

For his outstanding contribution to the field of lift truck safety and training, Mentor Training’s Richard Shore has received international recognition.

Credited with establishing the UK’s first national fork lift truck training network, Shore was presented the Fork Lift Truck Association’s (FLTA) “Services to Industry” Award at the Awards for Excellence, in February.

Shore has overseen the training of more than half a million workers who work with and alongside potentially hazardous heavy duty industrial vehicles.

Since his career began in 1979, Shore has devoted his working life to the fork lift truck industry, holding several senior positions with the industry’s major materials handling manufacturers.

In 2001 he joined Mentor’s management team and turned his attention to establishing a training organisation that provided nationally recognised and consistent training to UK businesses. His commitment to quality training provision has equipped workers in the UK with the skills and experience they need to work safely with a wide range of industrial equipment, from fork lift trucks and cranes to access platforms and mobile plant.

With more than 25 years’ experience, Mentor Training now employs nearly 200 training professionals, all examined and registered with industry specific accreditation bodies including the Association of Industrial Truck Trainers (AITT), which is part of the Accrediting Bodies Association – Workplace Transport (ABA).

Described by one colleague as “the best boss I’ve ever had,” Shore accepted his award with characteristic humility. He said, “It’s a great honour and a real privilege to be recognised by the FLTA for the work everyone at Mentor Training has achieved over the years.

“We remain steadfast supporters of the Fork Lift Truck Association and everything they are doing to improve workplace safety, and at Mentor we hope to continue to equip workers with precisely the right training they need to safely perform their roles with skill and professionalism.”
