City Lifting takes delivery of Grove GMK6400

London-based crane rental company City Lifting has bought the first Grove GMK6400 crane in the UK. It’s the company’s second Grove all-terrain crane, joining the GMK6300L that was added to its fleet last year. The 6-axle crane will help the company meet increased customer demand for higher capacity cranes.

The 400t capacity GMK6400 is currently the strongest mobile crane on six axles. The heavy-duty crane boasts a number of design features allowing it to complete many jobs of a 7-axle crane. This gives advantages in accessing restricted spaces on site.

In addition to innovations such as the Megadrive hydrostatic drive and the single engine design with Fuel Saver option, the crane has a 79m fly jib. Despite offering exceptional reach the crane is also relatively compact and offers on-site flexibility with a choice of three available outrigger positions, providing flexibility, where space is limited either on site or in narrow streets in the centre of London.

The design of the Grove model, combined with its 60m boom and MegaWingLift capacity-enhancing attachment, and fast set-up times, convinced City Lifting that the GMK6400 was a profitable addition to its fleet.

Trevor Jepson, chief executive officer of City Lifting  said, “We are very pleased to be in possession of the UK’s first Grove GMK6400 and we look forward to using it to provide more efficient and flexible solutions for our clients’ heavy lift projects. We researched similar machines from other manufacturers, but realised that the GMK6400 was the best and most reliable crane to meet our customers’ requirements.”
