Terex Port Solutions’ Largest RTG Order in Firm’s History

Terex Port Solutions has received the largest order for rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes in the history of the company.

Beginning April 2014, Terex will hand over 26 cranes to Malaysian terminal operator Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas for use in the port of Pelabuhan. The order also includes an option to order an additional 32 cranes, which are manufactured at Terex‘s facility in Xiamen, China. The machines will be configured as E-RTGs—powered externally by electricity supplied through a busbar system.

The order is in line with the comprehensive expansion of Pelabuhan’s terminal, which is the largest container terminal in Malaysia. They will be used on the two new quays that are under construction and will stretch 720m when they are opened in May 2014.

The cranes can stack standard containers 1-over-5, service seven container rows, plus a loading and unloading lane, and have an under-spreader lifting capacity of 50t. High handling performance is achieved through gantry speeds of up to 136m/min and trolley speeds of up to 70m/min. Power for the cranes is supplied direct from the harbour mains along busbar systems, which means that the gantries do not generate any exhaust emissions in the terminal and feature low noise levels.
