ACRP to Develop Sling and Rigging Hardware Inspection Guidelines

The Association of Crane and Rigging Professionals (ACRP) continues the process of writing training guidelines for those teaching classes in aspects of crane and rigging. One new guideline is nearing completion, and two others are in the hopper.

Mike Riggs of Slingmax, chair of ACRP's Public Safety Committee, reported during the group's General Assembly in Houston this month that Sling and Rigging Hardware Inspection Guidelines are nearing completion, and will be released later this year. Once out, the Guidelines will be posted on the group's website at www.acrp.net.

“They contain the most up-to-date information on what is recommended for those offering training,” says Riggs. “They constitute what should be taught in a class.” Over the past three or four years, the group has completed guidelines on the topics of mobile crane operator training, overhead and gantry crane operator training, and rigging training. Each volume is posted on the website.

Once the volume on sling and rigging hardware has been released, the group will tackle guidelines for mobile crane inspection training, says Riggs. “It's a two-year process, so it will take some time,” he says. “We'll work on training guidelines for overhead cranes after that.”
