FLTA provides clarity amid confusion
Industries facing rapid change can benefit from fixed reference points. The UK’s Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) is reminding owners and users of work equipment to make the most of available support during these turbulent times.
Tim Waples, chief executive of the FLTA said, “As we move through an uncertain future and companies strive to balance operational challenges, Covid precautions and safety responsibilities, it is important to gain guidance on best practice and compliance. FLTA members are uniquely placed to offer this.
“By working with an FLTA member, customers can be certain of relevant information and practical help in keeping abreast of changes to the legal and operational landscape: with expert advice and resources to support their day-to-day operations.”
The FLTA’s dedicated Covid-19 Resource centre is a free area of the Association’s website that is open to all. Developed to provide clear, concise guidance on topics such as HR, truck cleaning, furlough and Thorough Examinations, the Covid-19 Resource Centre delivers highly focused content with links to in-depth source material.
“We created the Covid-19 Resource Centre in response to the huge number of questions we were fielding from both our members and the truck-operating public,” said Waples. “The information is there to assist those who supply and service materials handling equipment as well as those who own and operate it.”
Held to account
FLTA members must abide by a stringent Code of Practice which means they are competent to survey sites, and then specify the most appropriate equipment. They must employ an ethical contract and provide unprecedented insurance cover. On-site support must be robust, prompt and carried out by fully trained engineers, using high quality parts.
Underpinning the code is a rigorous member audit. Developed specifically for the lift truck industry, it involves a physical on-site visit to inspect more than 100 criteria across the areas of safety, environmental procedures and best practice.
For customers it provides peace of mind and removes a potentially weak link in their chain of traceability and accountability.
Waples said, “FLTA members make up a network of the most respected and trusted companies in the forklift industry. They are provided with knowledge and resources designed to help them work safer and smarter, and are kept up to date with all the latest developments in the materials handling industry.
“Customers can, therefore, be confident that the FLTA member they are working with has been held to the Association’s highest standards. Whatever the nature of your operations, and no matter where you are in the country, you can be sure of the same quality-assured level of performance and support.”
