LHI well received at wind lifting conference in London
Lift & Hoist International (LHI) magazine was present as media partner on the opening day of the WindLift conference, staged at the ILEC Conference Centre, Earl’s Court, London, 27-28 November, 2012.
The two-day event, organised by Windpower Monthly Events, addressed an industry where delays to wind turbine installation, for example, are hugely expensive yet safety remains paramount.
Onshore WindLift on 27 November and Offshore WindLift the following day combined to address these issues, and more. Delegates can attend on one or both dates, all receiving focused information that could be taken back and applied to operations on work sites.
Among exhibitors was LiftRig Consulting, which offers services such as lifting assurance planning, lifting operations procedures, management of lifting operations procedures and audit planning. MD and technical director Nick Latham said: “With loads getting larger and heavier, safety considerations are the highest priority of all companies with responsibility for lifting operations. Hazard identification, risk analysis and failure mode and effect analysis are vital techniques required to ensure due diligence is exercised when equipment is being designed for new lifting operations that push the boundaries of today’s world.”
WindLift covers a variety of topics, including ‘Assessing your installation strategies and lifting methods for smooth onshore construction’, and ‘Making better informed decisions about road needs for easy transport of cranes and components’, and asked, ‘What cranes will be needed for future offshore projects with larger components at far-offshore and deep water sites?’
Liebherr-Great Britain was also among the handful of exhibitors and distributed brochures about training schemes designed by exporters for the qualified crane specialists of tomorrow.
Free copies and subscriptions to LHI magazine were well received by exhibitors and attendees alike.
