Liebherr Sells 100th LR 1400 Series Crawler

At its 2006 Customer Days in late June, Liebherr Ehingen, Ehingen, Germany, presented the 100th Liebherr LR 1400 series crawler crane to Julio Eduardo Simes, president of the Brazilian rental company LOCAR TRANSPORTES TCNICOS E GUINDASTES LTDA. Headquartered in Guarulhos/So Paulo, LOCAR owns more than 200 cranes • including three of the 440-ton Liebherr LR 1400 crawler cranes.

Since 1997, Liebherr has supplied customers in more than 25 countries with the LR 1400/1 and LR 1400/2 cranes. In the United States alone, more than 25 new LR 1400 series are in use, and a significant number of used LR 1400s reportedly have been delivered. These units also have been sold in South Africa and New Zealand, and they are very successful in Europe. In Germany, 16 have been sold, and 11 have been bought in the Netherlands.

According to Liebherr, the 440-ton crawler crane's success is based on it load capacity and compact dimensions. Additionally, the weights of the individual components are geared to transportation and economic use. A wide spectrum of boom configurations make this crane suitable for a number of applications, and customers can choose between light or heavy systems.

Liebherr reports that the LR 1400/1 was the first crane to be fitted with derrick ballast, with the ballast radius adjustable while the crane is under load. This applies to both suspended ballast and the ballast trailer option. Adjustment is through a hydraulic telescopic guiding device with a compensating ram.
