Manitou Unveils Remote Boom Control for New Telehandlers

Waco, Texas-based Manitou recently announced new options for its new MT 6642 and MT 8044 telescopic handlers. Added to the existing options is a new remote boom control option and 180-degree swing carriage.

Using frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum (FHSS) technology, the new remote control consists of a wireless hand-held transmitter, which can be used to raise, lower, extend, and retract the boom, as well as start and stop the engine. The transmitter is waterproof and resistant to impacts encountered on jobsites and includes a proportional trigger control for controlling the speed of the boom. The 180-degree swing carriage allows users to position a work platform parallel to a building, creating a larger area for working without repositioning the machine.

The MT 6642 telescopic handler has 42 feet of lift height with a rated operating capacity of 6,600 pounds. The larger of the two, the MT 8044 is capable of lifting 7,000 pounds to the full lift height of 44 feet, and 8,000 pounds to 37 feet. Both models feature a welded box-section design boom. Increased operating capacities are achieved without the use of stabilizers or fluid-filled tires, although for added stability stabilizers are an optional feature.

The two new additions to the MT Series offer John Deere turbocharged diesel engines. The MT 6642 is available with either 99 or 115 hp. The MT 8044 comes standard with the 115-hp engine with automatic engine shutdown protection. Other standard features include a three-speed power-shift transmission, three steering modes, and quick-attach mounting system.
