Manitowoc Updates Industrial Crane Line
Manitowoc Cranes, Manitowoc, Wis., better known for supplying lifting equipment to the construction sector, will unveil the latest addition to its Grove YardBoss industrial crane line at ConExpo, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nev., March 22-26, 2011.
The YB5520 is a 20-ton capacity industrial crane, and is a new addition to the product line. Tom McCallum, director of industrial cranes sales for Manitowoc, said the trend within the market is for larger and larger-capacity cranes.
"Customers are requiring higher-capacity cranes, even in the industrial crane market," he said. "This new 20-ton model will eventually replace the 18-ton capacity industrial crane in our current line-up."
The YB5520 features a 54.5-foot full-power boom with integral holding valve on a telescoping cylinder. This design is similar to the booms found on Manitowoc’s National Crane boom trucks. The boom nose can pivot in three positions and has an improved anti-two block system; a low profile with audio warning; an auto control lockout system; and a wireless load indicating system. The boom also features two offsettable swingaway boom extensions, a 15-foot fixed-length jib and an extendable 15- to 25-foot jib.
This new industrial crane also includes a cast counterweight, which allows for easy access to the hoist.
The enclosed cab on the YB5520 has a split door, which allows the upper portion to open for improved ventilation and more room for the operator. The cab also features a redesigned dashboard with environmentally sealed rocker switches, a fully sealed ignition switch, and a new display cluster with error code diagnostics.
The hydraulic system on the crane has also been revamped. It now features one variable displacement piston pump with a load-sensing feature instead of gear pumps. This allows for more efficient and precise control as well as reduced maintenance.
The YB5520 will be available with Tier III and Tier IVi engine options. The Tier IVi 3.3 L Cummins engine will be available in 2012. The new emissions-compliant engine will require a 45 percent larger cooling system and the exhaust system will feature the Cummins Compact Catalyst, a standard item which requires no additional maintenance.
The 18-ton capacity YB5518 crane will be available until the YB5520 comes off the production line. First deliveries are expected in early 2012.
This crane will also be marketed under the Shuttlelift brand as the CD5520 and will be sold through the established Shuttlelift distributor network.
