Unicarriers achieves health and safety certification – Industry News
UniCarriers Americas Corporation (UCA) received its OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety zone certification. The OHSAS 18001 is the latest of UniCarriers Americas certifications, along with the ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management.
OHSAS 18001 is an international occupational health and safety management system specification intended to help organisations control occupational health and safety risks. It was developed in response to widespread demand for a recognised standard against which to be certified and assessed.
After intense auditing, UCA was identified as displaying eight areas of best practices, including: electronic workstations, SDS, management’s commitment and compliance to the audit, execution of safety objectives, nearly a year without injury at its parts distribution centre, well-established new employee programme with safety training, levels of internal monitoring and measurement, overall cleanliness and extensiveness of its documenting control.
“This is our first big step in moving forward with our efforts to create a safe environment not only for our employees, but the community as a whole,” said Dale Mark, vice president, manufacturing operations at UCA. “Our leadership and commitment to uphold the highest standards of safety will reflect the same leadership and commitment we use to deliver reliable, quality UCA products.”
UCA originally launched its initiative to improve its best business practices. These practices were based on the management fundamentals of complying with and being accountable for government regulations, preventing any negative health and safety impacts and making continuous improvements in developing a safe work environment. Since its preliminary audit, UCA made significant improvements through the company’s extensive preparation and dedication to improving its quality of safety.
