William Ng appointed as LEEA Southeast Asia manager

William Ng is the new LEEA member engagement manager for Southeast Asia. He previously spent 10 years with Rigging and Marine Services in Singapore as a sales executive, mainly dealing with load test and rigging jobs with Singapore Shipyards. “I gained my LEEA Diploma for Lifting Accessories during my time with RMS.” Changing gear, William then worked with Lifesaving Equipment, joining Survitec in Singapore as sales manager, dealing with distributors across Southeast Asia region, and also handling new build projects for Fire Systems.

Ng’s role at LEEA is to audit and engage with the members in Southeast Asia and some of the countries in broader Asia area such as China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition, he will be promoting LEEA standards to the relevant companies and government agencies within this region.

“The lifting sector in Southeast Asia is spread across the offshore, marine, construction sectors, with the new energy industry becoming increasingly important. Among the issues that some of the countries are facing is the variability of local legislation when it comes to providing clear guidelines, resulting in users or inspectors often having to follow International standards, such as ASME, BS EN or ISO,” Ng said.

LEEA’s Southeast Asia regional council is on the way, hopefully by the year end, and Ng perceives many advantages for Southeast Asia lifting companies and individuals joining LEEA.

He said, “LEEA provides a global standard, which is recognised around the world. This is essential for businesses seeking to expand to another part of the region. My aim is to bring LEEA standards to the oil and gas operator, shipyards, accredited training centres and government agencies. My biggest challenge will be bringing LEEA standards to the construction industry, as most of them are involved in local business and are not required to deal with international standards.”
