Ainscough installs new turbines at Drumclair Wind Farm

Ainscough Crane Hire has continued its long-standing work with the wind sector by installing new turbines at a wind farm in Scotland.

Turbine installation specialist, Fairwind, appointed Ainscough Crane Hire to undertake the installation of two Vestas V117 3MW turbines at Drumclair Wind Farm.

This project presented a unique set of challenges, requiring meticulous planning, precise execution, and the deployment of cranes from Ainscough’s Heavy Cranes division.

Ainscough’s experienced team proactively monitored these changes and adjusted the lift plans accordingly, ensuring a smooth workflow.

The main construction crane, an LTM1750, operated within tight capacity margins.

James Storey, wind technical manager at Ainscough, worked closely with the client to develop a safe and efficient lifting strategy, minimising risks and optimising crane utilisation.

Precise positioning of the main crane was paramount, as any deviation could have compromised the crane’s lifting capabilities.

Ainscough’s skilled operators managed the crane setup with utmost care, ensuring that the crane was positioned optimally to handle all lifting tasks.

Despite the challenges, Ainscough successfully completed the lift programme, earning positive feedback from Fairwind. The company’s expertise in handling complex wind turbine installations was evident in the efficient and safe execution of the lifting operations.

Richard Geddes, business development manager at Ainscough Crane Hire says, “Wind turbines are an essential part of the future, and we are proud to have worked alongside the country’s renewable energy sector on a range of projects over recent years.

“The Drumclair Wind Farm project exemplifies Ainscough Crane Hire’s commitment to delivering exceptional service in the renewable energy sector. Thanks to the expertise of our team, we were able to complete a challenging lift with no compromise on safety or quality.”
