Delivering lifting solutionsA leading International parcel delivery service provider needed a solution to help their operatives transfer maintenance plant and tooling from the basement level to the ground floor of their facility through a roller shutter door. The only access prior to installation of the jib crane was from stairs.

It was clear that any solution would need to extend/transfer in and out of the building. The suitability of building structure limited mounting options and as the customer was using this for infrequent maintenance operations they did not want anything that would obstruct the floor space so a free-standing crane was not an option.

Verlinde’s sales engineers worked with the customer to specify one of our articulated jib cranes, the Eurostyle Templier that, with the two arm ‘knuckle’ arrangement, allows a much bigger working area coverage over conventional underbraced or overbraced jib cranes.

The articulated jib crane was supplied with a mounting bracket that allowed it to be mounted onto the customer´s existing vertical column in the corner of the room, which was verified to take the imposed load from the jib crane. The mounting location of the jib did not affect the customer´s floor space and when not in use it can easily be folded up against the wall.

The jib crane was supplied with a 3m overall jib arm radius, which consists of two 1.5m length arm sections. The first arm of the jib crane allows for a 180deg manual slew and the ‘forearm’ allows for an additional 300deg slew, which, in this case, was utilised to extend out of the building.

The jib was accompanied with the Eurochain VX2 180kg, electric chain hoist, with dual lifting speeds for increased control when transferring the plant and equipment out of the basement. These new hoists, marketed in spring 2020, offer an innovative design, improved robustness and power that guarantees reliability.  They include numerous features as standard including: safety limit switch for upper and lower position, IP55 hoisting and travelling motor protection and a new suspension bracket, compatible with existing trolleys and designed to facilitate the installation of the hoist.
